How to swap out your Rack Mount receiver
Dear Affiliate,
SCOLA is changing technology from MPEG1 to MPEG4. This migration is as simple as disconnecting the old receiver and putting the new one in its place. SCOLA will remain on its current satellite and polarity SCOLA (G19, 97W, Odd Numbered Channel) and will simulcast during the migration period.
To make the transition go as smooth as possible, the following list-of-steps have been prepared to guide you through the process of getting the new MPEG4 receiver operational.
  1. Unpack the enclosed MPEG-4 satellite receiver from its box and make sure there is a Smart Card inserted in the CAM (Conditional Access Module) and that the CAM is inserted into Slot 1 of the Common Interface for the IRD; located to the left of the arrow keys (see picture below for location).

The Smart Card needs to be inserted in the CAM “Chip Side UP” as illustrated below

--If you are missing the CAM and or the Smart Card, call SCOLA immediately at 712-566-2202 and ask for someone in engineering or send an email to . --The receiver will not work without the CAM and/ or Smart Card.

  2. Disconnect the WEGENER DVR series IRD’s power cord (to remove power to the unit).

  3. Place the WELLAV MPEG-4 IRD on top of, or in close proximity to the WEGENER unit(then perform a wire swap as follows).

    1. Remove the coax cable from the “RF IN” of the WEGENER IRD and re-install it into the port labeled “TUNER IN” on the WELLAV IRD. The tuner input is the connector on the right rear of the IRD, located near the power cord connection.

    2. Remove the cables that are inserted into the “AUDIO OUT” RED and WHITE ports on the rear panel of the WEGENER receiver and reinsert them into the RED and WHITE “AUDIO” ports of the new satellite receiver.

    3. Remove the “VIDEO OUT” coax (with a counter-clockwise twist of the twist type male BNC connector) from the WEGENER receiver and install the same coax (with a clockwise twist of the twist type male BNC connector) on the “CVBS” port of the WELLAV IRD.

    4. As an alternative, the composite video (yellow) port of the new satellite receiver could be used. But to do so, an RCA to BNC adaptor (not shown) could be used by simply inserting the adaptor into the coax (using a clockwise twist of the BNC cable end while holding the adaptor in the other hand), then insert this RCA adapted coax into the “VIDEO ” (yellow) port of the WELLAV IRD.

  4. Connect the WELLAV IRD into power, toggle the power switch to its “ON” position (pressing in on the top of the switch); the new MPEG-4 IRD will automatically lock onto one of the SCOLA channels that are programmed into the receiver noted by the green “LOCK” lamp next to the green “POWER” lamp. The initial authorization process after power up will produce a black screen on the monitor for up to two minutes before producing a picture.

Upon startup, the front panel of the WELLAV MPEG-4 IRD will display the IP address and current channel selection as illustrated below.

Pressing the “MENU” and the “ARROW UP/DOWN” keys in sequence 5a through 5i (below) will allow for changing of the SCOLA channels that are programmed into the new MPEG-4 satellite IRD.

    1. Press “MENU”

    2. Arrow “Down” one time to select “Outputs”, press “OK” then “Program Setup”

    3. Press “OK”

    4. Arrow “Up/Down” to locate the active channel (indicated by the CI Slot 1)

    5. Press “OK” then arrow “Down” to select bypass, press ”OK”

    6. Arrow “Up/Down” to select the next channel you want to display

    7. Press “OK” to underline the “B” in Bypass, then arrow “Up” one time to display CI Slot1 and Press “OK”

    8. Press “MENU” one time and then “OK” to save

    9. Arrow “Down” one time to “Outputs” and select “Decoder” then “OK”

    10. Arrow “Down” to “Program” then “OK”

    11. Select “OK” to underline the “S” in SCOLA and arrow “Up/Down” to select the same channel that was selected in item “f”

NOTE: The selected channel in “f” and the decoder channel in “k” must match for the IRD to change and decode the selected channel.

    12. Press “OK”, the word “Playing” will be displayed and the selected channel will be present on the monitor

  6. If you make a mistake, continually press “MENU” until the IP address re-appears and then repeat steps 5a through 5l.
